  
The Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder
What is? It is a squirrel proof bird feeder designed to literally “flip” the squirrels off. The Yankee
Flipper bird feeder is a squirrel proof bird feeder that uses a battery operated device, activated by the
squirrel's weight, to propel them off of the feeder. The perch is battery motor operated. When a squirrel's weight
touches it, the perch spins. The squirrel is ejected from the feeder. However, the perch will hold bird weight
without a problem.
One of the major problems bird watchers have with squirrels is that the squirrels take over the feeders and
scare the birds away.
This feeder is made of polycarbonate UV stabilized so that it won't yellow with age and the tube is 21" long and
4 3/4" wide. The feedercan hold 5 pounds of seed. It has a flat metal powder coated forest-green cap. The hanging
loop is made from stainless steel bailing wire.
The bottom of the feeder is encased with powder-coated die cast zinc in a forest-green color. The birds can feed
from four holes in the metal. The perching ring is located at the bottom of the feeder. An interior baffle design
allows the seed to flow to the four feeding holes. To protect them from moisture the battery and motor housing are
located inside the seed tube.
The ports that the birds take seeds from are well designed and the birds can eat to the last seed without any
problem.
The Yankee Flipper bird feeder comes with Nickel-Cadmium batteries already in the feeder and a
charging adapter that plugs into a standard electrical 120 volts (60Hz) household outlet. In the beginning the
batteries come completely discharged so they should be fully charged (just charge them overnight) but for no more
than 24 hours.
Depending upon how much activity the spinning perch sees, the feeder requires charging about once every four to
six months.
It comes with a Lifetime Warranty against squirrel damage in the feeder; one year Limited Warranty on
electronics.
Red squirrels and chipmunks may not be heavy enough to activate the mechanism but if you place the feeder so
that they have to jump to it will significantly increase your chances of deterring them.
The birds seem to enjoy the feeder. There is always lots of bird activity near this feeder. The metal green band
around the feeding holes is great contrast so that I can easily see and identify the birds. The birds have no
problem with the spinning perch. Since the perch is weight activated, the birds do not set it off.
Although not cheap (has a suggested retail price: of $149.99) the Yankee Flipper squirrel proof bird feeder is a
good choice for solving the problems of squirrels at your backyard.
